I captured this scene at midday in Northern California. I needed to show some detail in the rock in the foreground and yet still bring out the force of the sun. The classic "s" shaped curve of the river felt just right and by including the rocky mountain it shows how rugged this area is. I decided to exclude the sky and bring out the sunlit trees and soft colors in the upper right corner as a nice contrast to the terrain.
