"Aker Lake, Summer,
White Mountains, Arizona"
At around 9,500 feet above sea level and on the eastern most portion of the state lies the White Mountains of Arizona... to me, the Alps of the Southwest. Aker Lake sits in the middle of the White Mountains and is one of the most pristine lakes you'll ever see. I wanted to capture the quiet stillness and beauty of the lake and, as the sun was just rising over the mountains, show the deep, deep blue of the foreground water, the greens of the grass, the ivory white of the poppies and the fiery light of the yellow sun about to devour the rest of the lake. Capturing, in focus, both the close-up of the sunlit grass in the foreground and, at the same time, the opposite shoreline at the very top of the image, brings a continuity to an abstract image.
